T-Slot Connectors for Aluminum Extrusion
T-slot connectors are the fittings that join one aluminum extrusion profile to another: at a corner, in a T, or end to end. Some bolt on the outside with T-slot nuts and need no tools beyond a hex key. Others sit inside the profile for a cleaner look but need a tapped end or a drilled access hole. Every connector must match the profile size and slot width.
Connector types at a glance
| Connector | Joint | Sits | Machining needed | Adjustable after assembly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| L bracket (90° bracket) | Corner, T | Outside | None | Yes |
| Hidden / blind joint | Corner, T | Inside | Yes: tapped end and/or access hole | Limited |
| Corner cube | 3-way corner | At the profile ends | Depends on the part | No |
| Inline joiner / straight plate | End to end | Outside or in slot | Depends on the part | Yes |
The bracket-vs-hidden-joint trade-off follows MISUMI’s own guidance. Brackets “connect outside the frame” and “can be moved to any position”. Blind joints connect “inside the frame” and look cleaner but “require processing of the frame”. Their example blind joints need the frame end tapped (M8 or M12 on their 8 series) or a wrench hole drilled (MISUMI 8 series catalog).
What we use in our designs
Slot & Shaft templates currently use die-cast L brackets at every joint. They need no machining, they forgive small cutting errors, and they can be loosened to square the frame. Hidden joints and corner cubes aren’t in our parts library yet.
Every project’s parts list names the exact connector for your profile, with bolts and T-slot nuts counted, and each line links to a US seller. Prefer one box with everything pre-cut? Buy as a pre-cut kit — join the waitlist.
Matching connectors to profiles
| Profile | Slot width | Bolt | Connector must be made for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3030 | 8 mm | M6 | 30 mm profile, 8 mm slot |
| 4040 | 10 mm | M8 | 40 mm profile, 10 mm slot |

FAQ
What is the easiest way to connect aluminum extrusion?
L brackets with T-slot nuts. They need no drilling or tapping, and you can loosen them to adjust the frame.
What are hidden T-slot connectors?
Connectors that sit inside the profile, so the corner looks clean. Most need the frame prepared first, such as a tapped hole in the profile end or a drilled access hole for the wrench (MISUMI).
Are T-slot connectors interchangeable between brands?
Only if the profile size and slot width match. Slot shapes also vary, so a connector that fits one brand’s 8 mm slot may not seat well in another’s. Our parts lists pair each connector with a matching profile.
Do I need special tools?
For L brackets, a hex key that fits your bolts. Hidden connectors usually need a tapped profile end, which you can order pre-tapped from some sellers or do yourself with a tap.
Can I join two profiles end to end to make a longer piece?
Yes, with an inline joiner or a straight plate across the joint. Where you can, use one continuous length instead: our reference profiles can be cut up to 4,000 mm (157 in) (MISUMI). Our templates never use inline joiners: there are none in our parts library, and our fit check flags any member longer than the 4,000 mm stock length instead of splitting it.
